I grew up spending weekends in the garage with my dad, working on what he called “projects.” Every week brought something new — a deck, a remodel, a recreation room — and every project taught me something different. More than the skills I learned, it was the time we spent together and the pride we felt when the work was done that made those moments unforgettable.
That foundation continues to shape the way I approach every project — with curiosity, persistence, and pride in craftsmanship. After several years in digital marketing and design, I began assisting a local company with designing and building their website. Before committing to a one-year marketing contract, they asked me to first prove my SEO expertise. Their challenge was clear: take a business I had never worked with before and get it on the first page of Google within 45 days. I accepted.
The next challenge was to create a real product that I could market and sell online — something tangible that would generate meaningful traffic and prove my ability to apply Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in a real-world setting. It wasn’t just about getting clicks; it was about demonstrating how strategy, creativity, and visibility can work together to build something successful from the ground up.
Around that same time, my neighbors, Pete and Janet, had flood damage and were throwing out a pile of old doors. To most people, it was scrap. To me, it was an opportunity — free materials waiting for a second life. I took those doors, joined them together, and added crown molding and created my first headboard. When I posted it online, the response was immediate and enthusiastic. That simple idea turned into Vintage Headboards — a business built on creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
Since then, our designs have expanded to include headboards, tables, and furniture made from reclaimed wood, antique doors, barn wood, repurposed materials and new materials. Every piece we create tells a story — of the wood’s history, of the hands that shaped it, and of the homes it now becomes part of.
Hanging in my dad’s workshop was a small sign that read: “Doing it right means doing it once.”
Those words still guide everything we do at Vintage Headboards.
